Weekly church attendance

Give Sunday school family attendance a repeatable routine.

When families return each Sunday, their saved people can return with them. A parent checks in first, selects who is present, and records attendance without re-entering every name.

  • No email or phone needed for additional people
  • Saved people for the next visit
  • App kiosk and mobile web/QR check-in
Actual MemberMaker web check-in: the primary visitor is checked in, Sam and Riley Morgan are selected, and Check in 2 people stays at the bottom.
Real web check-in with a fictional demo family. Select saved people after your own confirmation.

For your program

Plan for this Sunday and the next one

Keep dates easy to distinguish

If you want to review each Sunday separately, create a distinct event for each session. Select it on every app device you use, or associate it with the web check-in link. Reusing one event keeps those visits under the same event.

Let the family choose who is here

Saved people are a convenience, not an automatic attendance list. Parents choose the children present that day, so an absent sibling is not checked in just because their name is saved.

Understand what the record represents

Every selected person has their own visit for the primary visitor’s event. The primary visitor also has an attendance record. Use this flow for shared family attendance; it does not split siblings across age-group rooms or mark a parent as drop-off-only.

From arrival to attendance

Check yourself in, then your people.

Enable Group check-in from the Group/Family Checkin page in your organization’s app or dashboard menu. The setting is off by default, and it is also available in Kiosk Settings.

Use the app on a shared device, or share a web check-in link or QR code. Visitors using the web flow do not need to install the app.

  1. Complete the usual check-inThe first visitor provides the identity details and answers required by your organization. Their own attendance is recorded first.
  2. Select saved people or add a nameAfter confirmation, choose who is here today. Add someone new with a name and optional email. Adding alone does not record attendance.
  3. Check in the selected peopleEach selected person gets a separate visit using the primary check-in’s event. Additional people do not repeat the contact fields or questions.
  4. Review the result and finishCheck each person’s result before leaving. Saved people remain available for future visits to the same organization.

1. Add someone by name

Sam Morgan is entered in the Add person dialog, with the optional email field left blank and Save person visible.
A name is enough. Leave email blank for someone who does not have their own address.

2. Choose who is here today

Sam and Riley Morgan are selected in the saved people list after the primary check-in, with Check in 2 people and Done pinned at the bottom.
Select the saved people attending with you, then submit their check-ins.

3. See each successful check-in

Everyone is checked in confirmation showing separate Checked in results for Sam Morgan and Riley Morgan, with Done at the bottom.
Each selected person has their own result. Finish with Done after reviewing the confirmation.

In practice

A weekly parent-and-child session

For a Sunday parent-and-child class, create an event for the session date. A returning parent checks in and chooses the child attending today. Both visits belong to that session, while their saved relationship remains available for next week.

Your setup checklist

  • Use consistent event names, such as Sunday family class followed by the session date.
  • Check the active event on each kiosk before families arrive.
  • Review the event’s recorded check-ins afterward; a saved person who was not selected has no new visit.

Use a separate event for each session you want to review independently. Event-specific setup requires Events access. You can also record group attendance without an event.

Choose the right attendance flow for your program.

Group check-in works best when the primary visitor and their selected people attend the same gathering. The primary visitor is counted too, and all additional visits inherit that event. It does not assign people to separate rooms or collect a separate questionnaire for each child.

For children’s programs, continue using your established registration and safeguarding procedures. MemberMaker does not provide security labels, authorized pickup verification, or proof of guardianship.

Before you get started

Sunday School Attendance App for Families: questions and answers

Can siblings check into different Sunday school rooms in one group submission?

No. Additional visits inherit the primary visit’s event. Group check-in does not route people to different classes or rooms. Use it for a shared session and manage room assignments in your existing process.

How do I turn on group check-in?

Open Group/Family Checkin in your organization’s dashboard or app menu, enable Group check-in, and save. The same setting is also available in Kiosk Settings. It is off by default and applies to the app kiosk and web/QR check-in for that organization.

Do children need their own email or phone number?

No. Additional people can be added by name alone. Email is optional. The primary visitor still completes your normal check-in fields and questions; selected people do not repeat them.

What happens if an email already belongs to someone?

An existing member must approve the link by email before they can be selected. Pending links cannot be checked in. Name-only additions create separate people and never match or merge by name.

Can family members attend different events in the same submission?

No. Each additional visit uses the primary visit’s event, or no event if none was selected. Event-specific setup requires Events access for your organization. Group check-in also works without an event.

Does checking in the group check anyone out?

No. Group check-in is offered after a successful check-in, not after checkout. Selecting someone who is already present does not check them out.
